Hola! My name is Mariajose Silva Vargas. I am a PhD Fellow at the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance, School of Business and Economics at Maastricht University & UNU-MERIT. I use field experiments - behavioural experiments and randomised controlled trials - to answer economic and policy questions in developing countries. I am currently working on two projects: one related to the centralization of land markets in rural Uganda and the second related to refugees’ welfare and labour integration in East Africa.
Previously, I worked in Uganda and Tanzania for 3 years managing impact evaluations for the World Bank & Innovations for Poverty Action. Also, I conducted a research study in the Ivory Coast on an UN-IFAD's program related to ex-combatants reintegration through agriculture.
I hold a master's degree in Agricultural Economics/Rural Development from Ghent University & Humboldt University of Berlin and a bachelor from Roma Tre University. I am Boliviana (Paceña) raised in Italia (Roma).
